There are times when I feel far too “civilised”. These are the times when I’m lost in the day-to-day, the perfectionist tendencies, the being busy because the to-do list is endless and trying to complete everything in the “proper” way (whatever that is).
It’s times like these that I struggle because, at heart, I am a Wild Woman. I’m a woman who yearns for the wild spaces of the world. The woman who retreats to the mountains when life has me caged me in an effort to tame me.
I run back to Mother Earth when I’ve lost my wild edge and raging spark.
I’m not someone that is easily contained or neatly described. I’m many things to many people, but to myself I am infinite. I have depths none will ever know, and a broadness of curiosity that will never be satiated.
I am both a known entity and a mystery: to none more than myself.
I crave the feeling that is invoked by the song from Wuthering Heights, Chains of Love. I am a woman who yearns, constantly, for my wild heart and raw expression.
I crave to not overthink, over analyse or over complicate things. I don’t want to have to wash the dishes every damn day. I want to run. I want my body to carry me as far as it possibly can before it fails. I want to see the world under the power of my own two feet.
I want to see things. I want to notice the tiny magic of everyday life, before we paved it over and slapped a price tag on “happiness”.
Happiness isn’t to be found in a glass of wine, the latest fashion trend or in securing a promotion at work.
True pure and primal happiness is to be found out there. And it’s not found, necessarily, in the sun and the shine of a bright and beautiful day. It’s found in the mists of winter, the rain of storms and in the raw nakedness of a high, vulnerable peak. Where nature meets danger: where expression meets vulnerability. Where pure, primordial energy returns to my veins.
It’s when I feel most alive.
Not the arbitrary ticking off the boxes society deems necessary.
But in allowing my wild, untamed spirit to exist alongside it. Both have their place.
In a world that profits from our pain and emptiness, that is the most rebellious act.
To reclaim and keep hold of your own Wild Spirit.
Wild Woman, rise.
Our time is now.
